Nestled behind Seattle’s Gasworks Park, this four-story office with exposed infrastructure put all lighting on display. It needed to be alluring to creative talent but unobtrusive to the surrounding environment. Following the CEO’s request for “magical” lighting, we proposed a strategy that maintained the view, created stimulating gathering spaces and glass-box conference rooms, and incorporated other moments of respite throughout the building. Lighting in the open office spaces and video teleconferencing rooms, many with varied configurations, were especially important. With one-third of open office spaces being subterranean, we used lighting and control strategies that are effective in daylight and non-daylight environments.
