Known as the “oldest federal structure west of the Mississippi”, Pioneer Courthouse underwent a complete renovation including architectural, structural, seismic, mechanical and electrical upgrades. Without disturbing the building’s character, PAE carefully integrated new, state of the art mechanical and electrical systems into the building. A few of these systems included high-efficiency gas-fired hot water boilers, high-efficiency water-cooled chillers, a variable volume air handling system, a new electrical distribution system, and telephone, data system wiring, and raceway systems. Energy Trust of Oregon incentives enabled the design team to improve the energy efficiency of each system, resulting in a 30% reduction in energy usage compared to the same period a year before the project’s completion.
