Portland International Airport Canopy Lighting

The signature element of Portland International Airport is the stunning 2.7-acre glass canopy that connects the terminal to the parking structure. Luma's challenge was to present a bright, inviting environment to the traveler while meeting budget, energy, maintenance, and FAA-imposed control tower glare requirements. These restrictions encouraged clarity in design. The solution consisted of expressing the 12 foot deep trusses of the canopy structure, celebrating the truss springpoints, and finally, illuminating the roadway below.
